Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal has extended its range of highly successful SUMIDIA DA1000 high density, ultra-fine polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning, milling and boring inserts to include SUMIDIA ‘Break Master’ with specialised NLD/NGD 3-D chipbreakers for semi- and fine finishing tasks.  The DA1000 has proven to have a distinct advantage for users involved with heavier and interrupted cutting cycles in wrought and cast aluminium alloys due to its superior strength, shear and wear resistance which is some 1.5 times greater than conventional PCD grades. Also, the DA1000 insert has a level of toughness similar to carbide.

Both ‘Break Master’ chipbreaker designs incorporate a 3-D presentation for the top rake angle with the NLD Type able to achieve excellent orders of surface quality due to its improved chip control and a sharp cutting edge with a 25 deg top rake.  Meanwhile, the NGD Type with a 20 deg top rake is ideally suitable for more general machining cycles and medium finishing cuts.
The SUMIDIA PCD range uses a fine sintered diamond powder on a carbide substrate which is ideal for non-metallic materials and non-ferrous machining.
