This year’s EMO was a great success for the United Grinding Group and its brands, and while ‘Digital Solutions’ (Industry 4.0 strategies) and the resulting benefits were a central theme of the Group stand, Walter Maschinenbau GmbH unveiled a host of productivity-enhancing developments for both its Helitronic tool grinders/erosion machines and its Helicheck tool measurement machines.

Laser marking

These included, says Walter Ewag UK:

[] The latest version (3 R3) of the Helitronic Tool Studio CAD/CAM software – for ‘what you see, what you grind/erode tool design, programming, simulation and processing – now also accommodating, for example, direct and precise measurement of tool diameters, combined wheel dressing and qualification, automated wheel assignment and a Quick Wizard upgrade to quickly access tool data.

Indeed, Helitronic Tool Studio 3 R3 incorporates a host of addition new functionality, including new parameters for rear margin widths on drills, axial flute grinding and clearance profiles, as well as a new ‘gash’ style fluting method and a new cleaning cycle for wheel changers.

[] Tool vision system – for integration (using cameras) into the Helitronic Power Diamond 400, Power 400 and Vision 400 machines and able to automatically find PCD ‘veins’ and/or coolant holes on tool blanks, for highly-accurate tool positioning.

[] Laser marking on the Helicheck Plus measuring machine – making possible laser marking on tool end positions – coupled with cleaning via two integrated air jets.
